Please open-source Gemini 1.0 Nano-1 (1.8B) π
Hey Google & Gemma team! π
Now that Gemini has moved well past 1.0, would you consider open-sourcing Gemini 1.0 Nano β especially Nano-1 (1.8B)?
It fits perfectly alongside the existing Gemma lineup (Gemma 2B is already there since 2024, and Gemma 3 1B since 2025), it's already been running on millions of Pixel and Galaxy devices, and at this point it poses zero competitive risk. Releasing it would be an amazing gesture for the research community β letting us study a real production on-device distilled model from a major lab.
xAI did it with Grok 1 once it was generations behind. Nano-1 is basically in the same position now. It would be a huge win for open-source AI and would strengthen the Gemma ecosystem enormously.
Please consider it! π
You should open-source too Gemini 1.5 Flash and Gemini-1.5-Flash-8B, since they aren't in the API anymore.
